Thanks, O
I will let you know when I receive about the SE. I am not giving Mia the second dose today, but will speak to her vet tomorrow to let her know my concern. Perhaps there is another med to replace this.
Mia is back to herself since it has been 13 hours and it is now out of her system. Amazing the difference.
I wouldn't just go and d/c this med without first speaking to yr Vet, was a culture done? And was the bacteria found specific to metron./flagyl ???? Than if u still go ahead wth discontinuing you must use the probiotic mentioned above.
How is our little girl doing today, awful when the hide from us....we feel bad enough abt needing to give them meds, but they have ways of making us feel even more guilty...when u get the SEB let me know, I'll send u some preparations and amounts......(( hugs))
Well I just ordered some slippery elm liquid from I herbs. I think I am not going to give her any more of the Metro--I will just give her the antibiotic and the slippery elm and try and get those dang tabs of Prilosec down her throat....well I will at least try. So far she has been spitting them back at me--she thinks it is a game of sorts.
I am just going to tell my Vet I will not be using the metro--cannot believe how many complaints about this drug. It is really dangerous...Why do vets keep prescribing drugs that have awful side effects. Maybe Meezy needs this for her specific infection, but I am not wanting her to be sick by the meds
Thanks a bunch for the references, knew you would know what's up with this drug..
My Best,
CML
CM a real good probiotic with 16-30billion cells that works good on that specific type of WBC-Leukocytes from what I've read...this isn't something I know of other than reading. but you need a this high cell count for a specific bacteria...the bacteria that Flagyl is usually prescribed for...

this is in powder form and can use up to 1/16 teas. per day for a cat.
you should also use Slippery Elm bark to soothe his tummy.....will not work on the gut bacteria but is really good to sooth ulcers in humans even

this one you make up into a gruel and give with a dropper....I give it to my Sami all the time for his acidic tummy
hi dear, not had to use that particular antibiotic on my cats before, also called Flagly. it is a risky antibiotic and from what I've read should only be used if a culture was done and it was deemed necessary to kill that certain bacteria. its often used in conjuction with other antibiotics...so your Vet is going at this will both barrels so to speak. both of these can cause diarrhea, sedation, lethargy and loss of appetite, so no wonder poor Mia is in hiding.
I would have a good discussion with your Vet to see if they feel this one is warranted and monitor the side effects if its continued.
Do you give her a good probiotic???? thats something she really needs right now, somewhere I read it can be as beneficial as the flagyl...but don't take my word on that...again speak with your Vet asap
