My cat stinks!!

My cat is healthy and keeps herself very clean (clean healthy fur), but her backside stinks!  It appears to be clean and I do see her cleaning it, so I can't understand why she smells so bad.    She doesn't scoot or clean it excessively, so I can't understand what is going on.  I love her so much but I can't even stand her sitting on my lap sometimes, its that bad.  Could this be a sign of some other medical problem?

hi and welcome, its VERY likely that kitties anal glands are impacted...that will cause smell and also be quite painful for her. She really needs to see a Vet, who will express the glands and make her alot more comfortable.....good luck and keep us posted...♥

It may also be a symptom of intestinal parasites.  Coccidia is particularly odorous.  Do her stools smell particularly bad as well?

Thank you for the replies :)  Sometimes her stools smell bad, but not all the time, its mainly her backside just..   I've had loads of cats over the years and none of them smelled like this, which made me think it was something medical.    I will definitely take her to the vet to get it checked out.

Bag up a recent stool sample to take when you go to the vet.  If it is parasites, they are very easily and fairly quickly treated and eliminated.
