How Do We Help Grieving Cat?

Hey my cat people.

Our boy Spike died almost a month ago.  His sister Sookie was with him from wombmates to the day we had to help him quit suffering.

We all continue grieving together and apart in our own ways.  Sookie doesn't understand and maybe we don't either but she demands to be combed 5+ times daily, she is more talkative than even ever before.  She squeaks commands I swear she has a whip somewhere hidden in her short hair.  When my spouse leaves she freaks, like Spike used to do, but she needs to get under a blanket in between my legs.

We give her so much love & attention.  What else to do?  She also gets upset when she hears his name but I'm not going to be Ramses and strike his name from tablets & tongues.

Is there good reading material anyone can suggest?

I welcome any ideas on our behavior as well.

  Thanks.

Blessings,

  Melinda

There are good books on cat behavior, but I don't think anyone has written in much depth on cat behavior when they lost a companion.  I assume you have considered getting Sookie a kitten?  A lively little male will help fill her days.

Melinda, sorry I don't have any advice to help Sookie, you are already giving her extra love and attention and thats all I could have recommended, its just going to take her some extra time. Animals grieve just as we do and we are all different in just how much time its going to take..sending her some purrs and scritches xoxoxo

When Queen Victoria died at age 17 1/2, followed closely  by Cerridwen Blythe at 16, we watched Calamity Jane who was Victoria's womb-mate.

Gave her extra loving and treats, but she did not do well as a solo kitty.  So, one of y co-workers had kittens ready, which is how we got Silver Kestrel and then her sister Hildiekatt a year later.
