Kittens are very much like children, but they grow up faster. As HemiSyd said, young kittens haven't gotten the hang of how to keep their claws retracted when they play, They are also naturally very active and playful because they have physically faster metabolisms than adult cats. Kittens, like children, are learning, playing, exploring, and growing. It is a vital part of their development. Yes, you can train them with consistency and patience, but not in behaviors that they just aren't physically capable of yet.
Hi
Kittens take a while to learn to retract their claws efficiently. If your kitten is persisting with behaiour ou don't like, then you need to take control the way you would with your son. Teach him by depriving him of your company, if he is behaving badly, walk away from him. You can combine this with using your voice as a deterrent - say no. It is important to never physically punish your kitten for doing something wrong. Not only would this be detrimental to his health, but in the case of your son learning how to treat the animal. Also if your son is small, the kitten may think he is playing the 'swatting' game and that would result in your son being scratched. I would always advise you to speak to your vet.
Thanks.
first of all we need to be very gentle with little kittens, how old is your son? children need to learn to treat a cat/kitten gently or the cat/kitten will learn to scratch, they take out their claws as their only form of defense when they feel threatened.
teach your son to cuddle, stroke and talk soothingly to a kitten the same as any baby should be treated, the kitten will soon learn to relax and not scratch.
best of luck to you all..and welcome to our forum.♥
