I am happy to say that my Sushi is now free of fleas, and the tiny lumps in her neck are much better, almost gone :)
I'm so happy kitty did not suffer adverse effects. There is something about these products that sometimes attacks the central nervous system.
Great idea, involve your son. I've had experiences where the cat really takes to the water. ( but usually not the 1st time) :-). Pamela
Thanks CRSeaside, I will try to bathe my kittens the way you described with the help of my son in the future. I already asked the vet and used the Revolution tube as instructed..it was too little to be divided anyway, and my Sushi is doing fine almost 10 hours after application, so I am relieved and will wait a day or too to check on the fleas to make sure they are gone. I will keep you all cat lovers posted :)
Sorry, but we never poison our cats & I work for a Rescue Foundation.
It may take 2 people but a kitten bath is not so hard. Important is to get everything ready in advance. A bit of watered down shampoo around the kittens neck& in the tub she goes. Fleas will drown in 5 minutes. The ones that run up towards the head get trapped in the shampoo. You have her dry towels & tweasers already in bathroom. Now get the rest off & drop in a cup of hot water one by one. We've done this 1000's of times. Pamela
good for you doing the research.....I agree Senamectin has a lower toxicity level than other products, and when a cat or kitten is infested than it is necessary to use.
I just warn people so they don't overuse nor use if not clear evidence of fleas are present.
always check with a Vet before using anything on a cat especially a kitten...they should be able to tell you the lowest effective dose.
heres more info on Revolution...

Thanks Opus for the link you sent me, it is really helpful. I noticed though that the ingredients in the drugs mentioned didn't include senamectin which is the active ingredient in Revolution, and I am wondering maybe back in 2002 they didn't have it. Maybe they called it revolution because it proved to be both safe and effective , who knows!
I found this and just thought I would share this with you. Written on the information leaflet under Animal Safety - Cats.
'CATS:REVOLUTION has been tested with no serious adverse effects in cats of over 15 different pure and mixed breeds. No adverse effects were noted when REVOLUTION was applieid in 10 times the recommended dose and in pregnant and lactating females, breeding males and females and cats six week of age and older. REVOLUTION was also applied 4 times the recommended dose to heartworm infect cats, and no adverse effects were observed. Accidental oral administration of REVOLUTION to cats may induce salivation or vomitting'
So tests show that up to 10x the recommended dose didnt have any serious effects on the animal.
That makes me worry less, but will still ask the vet.
Thanks for the advice, The cats are actually infested with fleas, this tiny one is heavily infested and she keeps scratching herself and tiny lumps appear in her skin in her neck, they could even be lymph nodes . I tried to remove as much as I could manually , but I suppose in the long run that won't be sufficient. I read on the internet that Revolution is relatively safe compared to other medications. Here in Egypt we have either Revolution , which is quite expensive, and another russian drug named Bars, about one third the price. The vet uses Bars and divides the ampoules according to the weight of the cat, but I believe Revolution is less toxic and safer and is effective against mites as well. I will probably divide the tube, but I will call the vet first just in case. I don't know where those fleas came from. The mom and dad cats were free till the Summer months, and we vaccuum regularly. They are all indoor cats, but just like to laze around in the balcony in the sun, so maybe it has to do with dust. Anyways thank you all , I'll give the vet a call.
Obviously, I am not the one to ask, since I barely ever get the flea treatment onto my cats even when I find them in the flea comb. Go with Opus on this one or talk to your vet.
NO certainly DO NOT use the whole tube on a 2 lb. kitten this would kill him...these are pesticides you realize they can do a terrible amount of damage.
Use only a half or 1/3 of a tube and only if its absolutely necessary, do your cats have fleas or are you just treating incase???? don't use if you don't need too...
read the warnings of these chemicals...even the ones not mentioned still contain neurotoxin and should only be used if absolutely necessary...:)
sorry for the rant but I hate what we are putting on and into our pets and its makes me SCREAM...

My vet uses Revolution on kittens. I do not know if he reduces the dose to less than what is recommended. I think he would not hesitate if the kitten was infested.
