How is Abby?

Hey PK...how's the increase in food going for Abby?  Is he wanting to eat anything on his own?

Jade,

No. They will not be taking the tube out just yet. I'm not comfortable with the way things are right now. He will eat, but not enough to make him gain weight and stay at a healthy number. He still needs the tube, probably until next year. They will draw some blood first, and see where his liver values are at right now.

I am going to that 24/7 vet again. I am hoping to God that they will be nice this time.

Will let you know how that goes tomorrow :)

This is simply awesome news!  I'm sure your vet will be pleased with Abby's progress.  I wonder if he'll get the tube out tomorrow or will they want you to continue tube feeding along with him eating on his own until he reaches a certain weight?

I take it you return to the 24hr vet?  If so, hope they can manage to keep their thoughts to themselves this time!

It sounds like that tube is not slowing Abby down at all LOL!

You're doing Such a great job, PK!!! :)

Abby is doing much better. He is not yellow anymore, and I can feel more meat in those bones. We have an appointment on Wednesday. He is eating now on his own, still not the way he is supposed to, but he now sits next to his food bowl and waits for food. He is eating about a can and a half of food (Small can) So we are progressing here.

He ran off yesterday. We found him under the shed, facing a rabbit, having a long conversation with it, like old pals. That was so funny. I wonder what the heck he was saying to the rabbit. No one seemed scared. They were just hanging out lol. Then my husband called him, and he started RUNNING towards the house. I can’t believe this cat. Walks like the Hunchback of Notre Dame in the house yet runs like a  Jaguar in our yard.

Thank you, Sara.

They cannot prove the raw diet made him ill. That's because it didn't.
I don't know what their problem is. They currently have another cat who was being fed dry commercial food, and stopped eating and got a liver disease. The cat was obese. The cat stopped eating because the owners got a dog. There goes the cat's health. See? No two cats are the same. Snickers didn't get so bad. This cat could not stand a dog in the house.

With Abby, we moved, and because we move a lot, it took a toll on him. I would love for them to stop blaming me for everything. There are no studies that suggest raw food causes fatty liver disease. It is only caused for lack of eating........and why would a cat stop eating? We all know stressed or sick cats don't eat. It doesn't take much to make a cat stressed.

Oh well......I guess not everyone is a professional.

Well here is my thoughts on all of this.......First off PK i am so thrilled to hear that Abby is eating some on his own!!!  The yellowness will take awhile to get back to normal.  He is feeling better so lets celebrate each small step he is making!!!  When he is better and no longer on the feeding tubes and can go back to normal eating go back to the raw food diet.  It works.  NOW for the vets who said he is weird and that you caused this.  God help them if i should ever walk into their clinic and hear that.  Each one of our babies are special and unique as that is what makes them who they are.  Wouldnt it be boring if they were all alike?  Snickers is a cry baby.  He only wants attention when he wants it but he cries thruout the day!!!  He peers around the corner to see if i can see and hear him and i always say the same thing, whats the matter for you?!!  We do this half a dozen times each and everyday.  Sometimes he really does cry and i think those are the times he sees my dad.  Then i sit with him and cry too.  Each one of our babies have their own thing that makes them special and that is why we love them.  Now let me at that vet clinic..........sara

I want cake!!!!

You both are right. Abby's regular vet tells me that if the raw diet works then by all means continue to feed him raw foods. My vet in Miami tells me the same thing. They monitor my cat's health. They are fine with me doing this. These guys at the 24/7 hospital are jerks.
They want me to keep my cat on steroids for the rest of his life to control his IBD. Tell me, are they not treating the symptoms instead of treating the disease then? what kind of DVM's  are these people? They blame me for my cat's illness yet they keep telling me what I'm tired of hearing and have tried before and has never worked. It's unbelievable. They just want to sell Hill/s. I wonder what the obsession with this company is.
I even told them that I read a book called 'How to raise your cat naturally' By Michelle Bernard, who is a DVM as well....and it literally says that IBD cats stop having the symptoms immediately after they eat raw food. They told me I was feeding my cat leftovers. I said I didn't know raw food was leftover. Perhaps they think we eat raw foods and give the leftovers to the cats? Ridiculous..
I told them that I never give my animals leftovers...and to please look up the word Leftovers in the dictionary.

But, I guess what matters is that my cat seems to be getting better. I had to stop my chores because it's time to feed him so..off I go...

just like the some of our medical doctors they can repair and treat but have lost the ability to be kind and empathetic .....it just makes you want to cry!!
My Opus died 4 years ago, but 3 years prior to that he was under the care of a Vet. teaching hospital in the city 3 hrs from here..he spent 3 days there being diagnosed from 3 different specialists.(a lot of 3's just realized)
than after dx's we needed to go back once a month for a whole year...it broke my heart every time we had to go...we'd just get to the door and he'd start hissing, he was so scared when they would take him, made me wonder how carefully they handled him when I wasn't in the room???...aftter one appt. he came home and refused to eat/drink and became dehydrated, I refused to take him to the Vet here in town, he was too traumatized already...so I got some info and treated him at home...I was working at the time(shift work) but I'd come home every 3-4 hrs and give him pedyalyte (?sp) via a syringe, this went on for 4 days before he started eating again....so yeah again how are they handling these animals...certainly don't mean everyone of the doc's or tech's..but some....also could be just the smells and being in a cage and the over handling, don't mean to assume they were cruel..just maybe not as gentle as they are accustomed to at home.
They would tell me too that Opus was a grouch and this hurt....like I said I don't blame these cats if they ever did bite!

this place has no right to accuse you of anything and especially continually, thats not right by any profession!!!!
these Vets are soooo against raw diets too...therefore need to lay some blame on that to make matters even worse, you know Abby they don't!
yes...I am so glad for you he is home too...and eating a meal GREAT NEWS....soon he won't need those darn tubes and get fattened up again!

enjoy the chores...
My grandson (10 tomorrow) is here visiting for a few weeks, so today we make a b'day cake than I'll start concentrating on the big bird.

Hi hon.  Sorry, I didn't mean to ask a question and run lol.   I ended up going to a Xmas party last night.

It's great to hear Abby is interested in eating on his own.  I like hearing that he's grooming himself too and playing a little.  Must mean he is feeling much better.   I don't know about your vet, though.  I don't like those comments about Abby either or the ones about your care for him.  It seems completely obvious to me this whole thing was brought on by the stress of the move.  ANY cat is stressed by a move, but a nervous cat is going to react even worse.  Has nothing to do with his diet.  How thoughtless for them to say that :(

Aww...Abby just wants to be with his mommy :)   Maybe a little seperation anxiety, but if you don't mind him with you/on you all the time, then that's fine.  I see Opus' has a kitty much the same...so cute :)  I have never had a cat like that, but my parakeet was.  She needed to be on my shoulder or near me at All Times so I do know what it's like to have a pet that always wants you :)

Yep. They say he is evil. 'The Evil Kitty' just because he growls when they are opening holes and sticking things into his skin. I guess they have never encountered a cat who doesn't like to be pinched, poked, opened up, etc.

Abby has never bitten anyone! And, I have been doing the same things they did: feeding him, cleaning him, changing his t-shirt, tube etc, and he will let me do all of this. They told me he was practically impossible to work on. I wonder if they even know how to work with animals....
Gosh, he is sick...give him a break! I'm so glad he is home...

I just fed him his first meal, and he also ate on his own too. Now fixing to do some chores. Who wants to join me? :)

Opus, you know.....Abby would cry and call me while I was gone back when he was a kitten. He'd stare at the door for a long time....and then grab my towel or any of my clothes and go to my bed and lay there on my side of the bed. He still does this. He grabs a towel, or a blouse, or whatever, and will sleep all wrapped up in it 'til I get home. He sniffs it, kneads all over it, purr...and then fall asleep.

April.....they are very nice.....so nice they even told me I was the one who made him sick. And, they make sure they tell me that every day. As if I needed more crap..

lost all I had written somewhere in cyberspace??

they have alot of nerve saying Abby is 'weird'....and 'mean'
I'd like to know how their demeanor would be after being so ill and having ever tom **** and harry pocking and prodding and sticking things in them?.....I think I'd be inclined to bite Abby should be praised for not doing so!
You are his mommy in all senses, my Nemo is somewhat similar, he has to be near me too...he HAS to touch me and it has to be skin, anywhere my face, arm, leg or neck!!! at night he lays beside me with his paws around my arm and his head on my shoulder..so darn cute.
when I'm typing he has to be on my shoulder and here's me holding up his butt with the left arm and typing with the right, so always typo's...lol
No they just become super attached to us, some of them anyway..we are their whole world..
best to you

ahh! Thanks for the wishes. And, Merry Christmas to you, too, dear. I hope the new year brings you good news, health and life for you as well as for the kitties, doggies, and family (the humans)

To your question: ....do you know what he does when you are away?

When I'm not home, according to my husband, Abby will sleep most of the time, and will only get up to eat or use the box...maybe play with Dillan for a little while but not too much. He'd rather stay asleep 'til I get home. The minute I get home he follows me around. He is not a lap cat, but as long as he is next to me, or close to me, he is fine. He will play a lot and walk around like he owns the place, and the whole nine yards. That's his life. It's just wait for mommy to come home to start following her around nonstop and act normal. It does not bother me at all. But, I just wish he were more confident. Dillan is not like Abby. In fact, Abby is the only cat I've had who behaves like this, and I have had lots of kitties. But, Abby is the only one with IBD. All my previous cats have been healthy.

I just want my cat to be a happy fella for once. It's one thing after the other with him, and it seems like the never ending story. In two years, he has been at the vet's a thousand times. He is so stressed....I mean it. If you move a leg he'll run away scared. He has never been abused. I have always given him lots of love and attention. He is my baby.

The only time I saw him happy was when I was feeding him the raw food because he was feeling good. Never showed symptoms of stress, and would play with Dillan all the time. He'd still follow me around, but you could tell he was much happier.

The vets keep asking me where I got him from, because they can't figure him out. They really can't. He is just different and comes off as mean to them. But he really isn't mean. He just feels bad and vulnerable. The vets say he is weird. That's the word they use, is WEIRD.

I think he is an angel who deserves a break...

ahhh he is improving and that is very good news, when he is back to his old self you go ahead and feed what you want, but until than like you said 'better follow orders'...the yellowness takes along time to pass...soon as his billirubin is normal range coloring will change too.
You have done such a remarkable job and I'm soooo glad he is eating again whatever the food is, that is such a milestone PK....your barito is home and doing well thats a wonderful Christmas present....
If I don't get on here again..I want to wish you and Abby a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and the New Year will bring your baby back to normal in every way..
(he thinks you are his mommy and has some separation anxiety too....do you know what he does when you are away?)

Hey Jade, (I will vent a little here, ready?)

Thanks for asking hon.  Abby is showing interest in food and is now eating more on his own. Because he hates the l/d, I am still feeding that one through the tube, now 30 cc four times daily. I asked the vet what to feed him since they are completely against raw food. They gave me a list of foods. So I bought Merrick canned food and he has been eating little by little. Until he gets 110% better I guess I'll just have to follow doctor's orders. I just hate that his IBD is bad, even on steroids, it's still bad, and they can't give me a solution because they won't admit that the raw food is actually a solution. Keep telling me about Hill's this, and Hill's that..for IBD. I'm tired of telling them I have tried Hill's z/d, a/d, and the rest of the alphabet, and nothing. They are not treating the disease but the symptoms. What a waste. My poor cat is the one suffering, know what I mean? They wear Hill's t-shirts, so there is no way they have monetary ties with Hill's......no way!

But, I am more concerned about his liver. The IBD issue can be controlled with raw food once I get the liver going again.

Still yellow. But wants to play, kindda. Grooming more and more each day. He has been following me around like he usually does, so he definitely has more energy. You know, that is one thing I will never understand..is why he follows me from room to room all the time. It's constant....always has been, since he was a little  thing. I don't know if he got weaned too early, or if he has separation anxiety.  But, I don't mind it. I would just like to see him more independent and sure of himself. My poor kitty...

I have an appt on the 23rd. He'll have to fast because they will draw blood to check his liver enzymes. We'll see the numbers. Last time his billirubin was at 10. The normal value is 0.6.

Thanks for asking, my friend.
