Hi Bev'
Just wondering how that nasty wound is doing? Let us know, K?
Thanks
Hello beverlynallen,
I agree with the two previous posters. Our cat, Sammy, does not really
enjoy going to the vet either although we are so lucky to have a terrific
vet who treats him extremely well. Your kitty's condition sounds concerning
and I agree that kitty needs to be seen by a vet so the vet can assess
what is going on. I wish you and your kitty well. Especially a wound near
the anus where fecal matter could presumably enter the wound and cause
further complications. Good luck to both of you. Eve
I agree, I understand some kitties have a hard time at the vet, but this sore can be a puncture wound or something like an abscessed anal gland. Whatever it is, it sounds infected. If it is a bite wound, antibiotics are important because the infection lies deeper in the tissues where the tooth goes below the skin and nasty bacteria proliferate and need special meds. If it is an abscess anal gland, it needs to be flushed out and treated with antibiotics. There is a chance it could also be something bad...(the C word)...hopefully not, but just throwing the possibility out there..This is something that it is better to be safe than sorry and consult the vet. Ask if they would allow an abbreviated exam to just check out the area and not a full physical exam that will stress your little one out more.
Hi Beverly,
Any wound should be looked at by a Vet to evaluate if it is a surface wound or parasitic sore. The risk of infection is one I would not want to take a chance on. Obviously it is bothering him since he has been licking that area often.
Know what you mean about Vet Anxiety. Perhaps you could just call your vet and explain this lesion--I am sure he will need to see this for himself, but worth a try just to call for a consult.
Good Luck!
