The above link would be good to check out for anyone dealing with a poisoned cat. It gives thorough instructions on how, how much, and when not to.
when you suspect your pet has ingested something it shouldn't have, wether it's a dog that has eaten some pills, or a cat who licked something they shouldn't have one thing you can immediately do is to "pump" their stomache with some peroxide. don't give them too much, a little will do. what happens is that it creates a foam in their tummies and they then puke up whatever it was. gross cleaning up the puke, but in the case of my friend's dog it may have been that quick thinking that saved his life when he ate an entire bottle of advil. I got the order from my vet when my tubby buddie Puck (the cat) ate a whold pound of catnip and was sick from it. unfortunately that works best when you catch them fast after doing it. a little bit of whatever was ingested being absorbed is ok, generally, but not always.
cat is now much better, although displaying all symptoms of antifreeze poisoning, it was infact some other form of poisoning and at present is doing quite well and is now able to stand and walk as normal and to be able to see normally. Thank you for your reply, I was frantic at the time and it is always in the middle of the night with no accessable vets when anything goes wrong!
There is an antidote for antifreeze but it can only be given by a vet and it needs to be started ASAP, so please, if you suspect that this is his problem, get him to an emergency clinic NOW. Even waiting a couple of hours can mean the difference between life and death, tomorrow will be too late.
Please post back and let the forum know how he makes out.
