manx kitten with bowel incontinence

manx kitten with bowel incontinence

Hi, I recently got 2 kittens from same litter, one is male manx without tail & 2nd is female with tail. The female is doing great, growing, playing & gaining weight. They are approx 13 wks old now, I'd gotten them at 11wks. My male cat is having bowel incontinence issues. He makes it usually to litter box but has dribbles on backside. He eats reasonably well but has had weight loss from 3.1lbs to 2.9 lbs in 2wks. I'm feeding them Iams dry kitten food. My female has no problems GI related. Both have had dewormer, feline leukemia neg. On Pete's 2nd trip to vet for large amt of diarrhea, stool sample collected & another anti-parasitic given. He has no observable problems with ambulation/jumping. I'm concerned that he isn't gaining wt, diarrhea. Have read some about Manx synd. Any suggestions?

hi Pete the best site I know for nutrition is the following and I agree about the probiotics...I will send you a link for the one I use, its a powder form just need a little sprinkle on their food..and has the most bacteria  strains as well as NO soy, or other harmful ingred. to cats...iherb is very economical and shipments arrive within a few days even here to Canada

this is about nutrition....very good info. this vet really promotes homemade meals but she also lists the best 'commercial foods' on the market by clicking on a link to the right of her article.....your best bet is 'grain free' and cans rather than dry for a healthier kitty. good luck and post again if we can help..

hi....I see you have done some research into Manx Syndrome. theres not much doubt that this is what poor little Pete has....since bowel incontinence is the main problem...he's lucky he has the use of his legs, I hope that doesn't change.
I'm not sure if the lack of weight gain are due to the syndrome or to the diarrhea?
I would get him (both) off Iams DRY food for one thing, this isn't a good food. full of preservatives and by-products.
I will send you a link to a Vet who talks alot about nutrition. if you look on the right hand side of her column click on 'commercial can foods' to find a list of much better GRAIN FREE cat foods. this may help wiht his diarrhea issue.

I will also include a site that has info about Manx Syn. maybe you've already read thru it but I will include just in case.
Glad to have you stop by our forum, I hope you will remain with us and visit often. and good luck with little Pete.♥

Thanks opus88 for your response. I am looking to change their food. Can you send link for nutrition? The vet suggested probiotics & food change. Thanks again.
