Sorry, Red, but I just remembered you said he was drinking a lot and his breath was bad. Pip is right when he said poison. Do you know if your cat ate or drank something poisonous?
Let us know what you find out.
Thanks, CML
Hi Red,
I am posting this information from my cat medical handbook:
" Blood Clot in Artery" (Arterial Thromboembolism)"
This is caused by passing of a blood clot( embolis) from the left side of the heart into the general circulation, where it becomes lodged in an artery., (thrombosis).
The most common site of blokage is the point at which the abdominal aorta branches into the main arteries of the legs. Arteries elsewhere in the body can be affected. Diagnisis must be made at a veterinary Medical Center.
If your cat suffers from feline cardiomyopathy it is a common occurrence, but dangerous. This can be the first sign of a heart condition. It is characterized by sudden onset of weakness in the rear legs, cold leg's,bluish skin, faint or absent pulse in the groin.
If caught in time surgery may be needed. ""
Does this fit the symptoms? Still best to speak with your vet. He will know for sure what could have caused this, or as Pip has said a necropsy may be needed. Most people do not like to even think about that, so hopefully your vet will help you find the reason"
I am so very sorry to hear of your lose, but something like this is very serious and there seems to be little that can be done. So rest assured you could not have helped with the sudden onset of this condition.
Please let us know what the vet tells you. We learn also from these tragedies.
Sincerely
CML
Sounds like some sort of poison, but only a necropsy by your vet could really tell.
