Hi. Some cases of cerebral palsy have been linked to inflammation of the brain caused by encephalitis. If you think your child has developed speech and mental difficulties, and poor motor control after the infection, it might be best that you bring her to a neurologist for evaluation and management. Although the definition of post encephalitic cerebral palsy is often associated to children 0 to 6 years of age, older children can develop cerebral palsy-like complications as a result of underlying brain damage. A full assessment of your child’s health and social care needs should be carried out, and an individual care plan that is designed to meet those needs should be drawn up. Hope this helps.
