14 year old son with 1 swollen nipple

My 14 year old son came to me last night showing me that he has one swollen nipple, almost like when a girl develops breasts.  When I touched the tissue it felt like a hard ball, this is also only on one side.  Is this part of puberty?

my son and his friends (all very athletic jocks) used to play a game where they would grab and pinch or twist the other kids nipple till the kid said "Uncle' or something.  This did lead to some swollen nipples.  May not be what is going on - but 14 year olds are kinda nicely weird.

It is possible that his chest has been rubbing on some material so check that out, has he had something rougher' next to his skin, maybe some kind of allergic reaction to a new shower gel or soap ? KIds do strange things could he have touched the area with hands that have touched any sprays or creams could cause a reaction, tell him to use something soothing, if it continues check it out at the Docs.
