2 year old with temper tantrums

My daughter turned 2 yr old recently. She has had delayed milestones and has just started indepentent walking and utters mono syllables infrequently. But has a very quick and violent temper and bangs her head repetitively many times a day. What seems to be the problem? Also, her wrist movements, direction sense and picking up things is very poor. What should I do?

Hi all, Thanks to u all for sparing time to answer my question. My daughter has had lots of occupational therapy. This weekend we visited her doc and on evaluatioon he said that therapy is no longer required as there is no stifffness anywhere. For wrist movements he suggested we encourage her to play with clay and the best he said was to start sending her to a play school where she will observe other kids and tend to copy them. I am really anxious.. should i wait more or start sending her right away?

Actually, I have two children and am due to have my third anyday.  I also work with children ages birth to 18 on a daily basis.  My dd is 16 and my son is 3.5.  And I guarantee you that if any of my kids had been exhibiting those behaviours I would have been in to see a specialist asap.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

I strongly agree with chiromom, you need to seek evaluation.  You can contact your local public school district who can evaluate her and provide services free of charge to you, providing that your dtr. qualifies.  It is critical to seek services as early as possible for a child who is lagging in their development, to help your dtr. reach her full potential.  You should also consult with your pediatrician/healthcare provider who can provide referrals for addtional speech/language evaluation and physical and occupational therapy evaluation.  Best wishes...

If your daughter is missing milestones, and only now walking at 2 years old, she may qualify for early intervention physical therapy.  I would get her evaluated for that.  If she can't speak well enough to express herself, she may be head banging out of frustration.  What does your pediatrician say?  How did her 2 year check up go?  If your pediatrician doesn't think there is anything wrong, I may get a second opinion.  You only have one shot at 2 years old.  I would hate to look back and say, "I should have looked into this."   Go with your gut.
(FYI, I have a 3 1/2 year old, no issues, but, my neighbor has a 22 month old with physical delays that has benefited greatly by early intervention.)

It is very common for youg children to band there head out of frustration! They do not have the vocabulary to vocalize their feelings. Just make sure she does not hurt herself, and pull her away when she starts to do this. Sometimes kids lack in the fine motor skills and it sounds like this is the case with your daughther. Just give her time and plan activites to help her. If you are really bothered, just go to your doctor. At least he can help reassure you/ and or direct you if you should need help. My son was a head banger. He is now 4 and he no longer does it. It was just a phase and he grew out of it! good luck.
By the way, I DO NOT agree with the other ladies comment aboout seeking help immediately. She does not have any kids yet, so I feel she really doesnt understand how children act

She needs to be evaluated by specialists.
