4 year old son defecating on floors

My 4 yr old son was recently diagnosed with a Cognitive disorder, is delayed at least 2-3 yrs. I was wondering why he would urinate on the floors and defecate also. Could it be because of his disorder, Or just for attention. Also refuses to be potty trained. I am worried his 3 yr old brother will pick up on this and start doing it himself. Is there anything I can do to help him? I am at wits end here... Can't seem to find anymore answers. How can I punish him for this if its intentional? Also making him understand at the point a 1-2 yr old would understand. I would like to help him even if it means him going somewhere for help...

Hmm - since he has Cognitive disorder - he should qualify to get help through public school system.......And for Kindergarten, he shoud be able to get education in a least restrictive environment.......

What kind of help are you getting in connection with his Cognitive disorder?

Where did he get evalutated? Did you evaluate him through the school system?

I agree it very well can be for attention. He doesn't take his diaper off he pulls it to the side then proceeds to potty on the floor. If he does, potty in his diaper he scoops it out then proceeds to put it on the floor. I have tried it all...I tried just talking to him, that was about 20 minutes of trying to get him to sit still and listen. I tried bribing. He says OK, but never tries. He's going to be 5 soon. He can't go to preschool.. They don't want him there. It may be something I am doing wrong or did wrong.

Thanks for the advice...

Does he respnd well to positive reinforcement? Does he pull his diaper off and goes?

Try bribing him into sitting on a potty, with immediate positive reinforcement once he goes or even just sits there. What did you try in terms of potty training?

My son refused to potty train until 3.5 y.o, then he trained for #1, #2 and night over two weeks. If he is delayed 2 years - you may have to wait until he is 5

Meanwhile try rewards systems

Good luck:)
