Pixijal,
I've personally never heard a doctor advise a parent to feed their baby only formula/breastmilk for the first 12 months. I started feeding my baby jar food at 5 1/2 months too and he seems to have no problems. Each pediatrician has different opinions and offers different advice - seriously you didn't know that?!
Yes, the first 12 months of nutrition should PRIMARILY come from formula or breastmilk. Seriously, you don't know this? Talk to your pediatrician.
At 6 mnths old is when everyone (WIC, ped....ect) tell you to start feeding them babyfood. So, 5 1/2 mnths is not to early, but she is right when I think about it.
However I have never heard anyone say that formula is all they need untill they are a yr old...
It isn't even neccesary for your 5 and a half month old to have jar food...she may not be ready. Give it a rest for a few weeks, and start with some applesauce. Good luck, and remember that the first 12 months, the only nutrition they need is breast milk or 12 months of formula.
lol..no problem hun. I remember thoughs good ol days I am sure there was alot of times that my sons dr. had a good laugh after I would call him freaking out over nothing...also I say agian thank god for my mom
well thank you for the help. im a 1st time mom so i want to know everything.
Maybe you could also try to add a little bit of the rice ceral in the babyfood. My son has acid reflex and has been on rice ceral in his bottle since he was a week old. The rice ceral has also helped keep down his babyfood. As long as she is gaining weight then I wouldn't worr to much about it hun.
rice cereal is rather bland and baby food has a lot more taste, which your baby isn't use to, its just a short term sensory issue that will fade. try the baby food but don't get upset if she/he spits it up, supplement with whatever he/she will accept. gradually, your baby will take the new food.
