5 year old is upset about erections

My 5 year old son is very upset when his penis become erect. When asked if it hurts, he says no. When he is busy playing outside or watching a favorite cartoon, he doesn't display this behavior. Sometimes, he does use this as a way to get attention from my husband and I. We've tried ignoring the behavior and trying to distract him, but it is troubling that he is so upset by it. Unfortunately, he pulls on the penis and hits it to try to get the erection to go away, which makes the problem worse, of course. We've explained that this is supposed to happen and that it happens to all boys. He doesn't attend daycare and spends his time with his 4 1/2 year old brother and his stay-at-home Dad, so we know that he hasn't observed this behavior in other kids. I am hoping for some advice about how to help my son become less concerned about this. Thank you.

In that case I think the best way to teach him would be to get him a book about his body and explain or maybe ask his dad to explain it to him .Then let the subject drop it could be that talking about it is reinforcing the issue .,less said could be better ..good luck

My son has not been in school and his brother doesn't display the same behavior or concerns. The 5 year old is very interested in his body and has been for several years. He often wants to know what is inside his body and enjoys looking at books about the human body. Thank you.
