My 3 year old (3 year 2 month) has been asked to take a Developmental Screening test at his preschool. His teachers have said that he does not follow directions when doing activities although when he does follow the directions he can do the activities. We had him evaluated and he was actually advanced for his age according to the evaluation. He knows his alphabets lower and upper case, can use scissors well, knows his numbers, picks thing up really easily. For example, he knows how to use the computer and find games on the computer, can use our cell phones, he picked up counting in Spanish just by reading a book a few times. He memorized parts of some of his books and is interested in reading and is starting to sound out simple words, for example "zoo". He asks us what letter things start with. We've had many other people tell us that he is "smart". But it's frustrating to go to preschool everyday and hear that he is not following directions and not listening like the other kids. At school they are doing one alphabet a week, coloring, cutting and pasting. Which he does at home all the time. He even enjoys working in workbooks at home. I guess my question is why might he not be listening at school and does he seem to be "behind" for his age?
