She can't control her bladder.

My god daughter is a beautiful, energetic and intelligent 4 year old.  She's on track with her weight, height and capabilites. However, she seems to have a problem with going to the bathroom. For the most part, she does it correctly in the correct spot.  But there are alot of times when she will wet the bed and hide it so she does not get in trouble or she will be wide awake playing or watching tv and urinate. I don't know what to do to help her. I know that yelling at her does not help the situation but she is in school and changing her clothes 2-3 times per week. I know she gets embarressed and I feel bad for her. I have 5 natural children and never had to deal with this problem. What do I do?

I agree, talk to her doctor.  Rule out medical reasons.

Just an FYI

My 8 yr old has been unable to control her bladder for the last year. I honestly thought it was laziness and was disheartened that maybe I had done something wrong in raising her. I was becoming very frusterated. I took her to the doctor this morning because she is now in pull ups because of sanitary reasons and she just couldn't grab hold of getting to the washroom. The doctor said she has blood in her urine sample. He said he's seen around 150 little girls and parents complaining about the same thing. Minus of course the blood in the pee. She is being sent to a specialist because he himself has never seen that. Get her checked out. She may be just as frusterated as you are for something she may or may not be able to control :) Peeing of the pants could mean so many things. That you don't even know about :( I fell absolutely horrible for all my frusterations over something she couldn't control.

Good Luck!
