3 1/2 year old potty training issues

My daughter has been potty trained since she was about 1 and 1/2 and we couldn't be prouder.  She started pre-school this year and this is where everything somehow turned around.  She will go and urinate in the toilet but as soon as she needs to have a bowel movement.  She will hold it in, say that she's terrified of going, will kick, scream, cry if I try and sit her on the toilet for more than a couple of minutes.  She will then say she's afraid it will hurt, even if we say to her that it's better to get it out because your stomach will hurt.  She will complain of stomach aches, won't be able to sit still or stand still, she kind of dances around.  I am at a lose as to what to do.  Should I ask the pre-school if something happened? I have tried all the tested methods with no results and now I feel like a horrid Mother, her screams of fear are heartbreaking.  Should I just take her to see the GP?  She is my first and only child.

Sounds like she is constipated and it hurts to push it out, maybe get some med to soften it up, may less of an issue of it,or force her to sit on the potty,  it will make it worse. The doctor will be able to give you something it maybe an idea to start there ,make sure her food has cereal bulk, beans , have you given her orange  juices .
