Eye rolling to left side of head

Hello,

My daughter is six years old. She just started 1st grade and has been rolling her eyes to the left side of her head for two weeks now. She does it all the time. When she does is, it usually happens real fast. Sometimes she will do it two times in a row. I tried to make her aware of it, but she still does it. I am not sure if there is something wrong with her neurologically, or if something is wrong with her eyes, or if it is just nerves. She seems to do it more when she is at school or her soccer practices. She also will start to blink her eyes a lot when she is around other children. I also had a baby five months ago. I don't know if children start to do that when there is a new child. I have been trying to do everything I can, to give her attention and to make her feel secure. She still continues to do this odd eye rolling. Its to the point where she wont do it if I am looking at her, but she will if she thinks I can't see her. This leaves me to believe she can control it.!?

I am very worried it will not stop. What can I do? What do you think it is? Can it stop?

Thank you so much for your help,

Elaine

Hi, my son also does this.  He is 5 and moves his eyes from left to right.  It is usually a fast movement.  He seems to be unaware of it and says he can't help it.  I brought it up to the doctor and he did not seemed concerned with it.  Have you discovered anything new, or did It go away?

It does sound like your daughter may have full control over this eye rolling thing but if she insists on saying that she doesn't and you are really concerned, then maybe a trip to the eye doctor would be appropriate. It certainly doesn't hurt to double check her vision. I'm not sure what else I could say. If she is purposely doing this, she probably is doing it for the attention. I hope that you can get to the bottom of this. God luck.
