Eating disorder

My adopted daughter is 5, she steals food consistently in excess like today by the time I got up at 6am she stole and ate two donuts 4corn bread muffins a half loaf of plain bread and a pop tart. I tried to keep most stuff in locked cabinets but I have 3 other kids who are able to get stuff on there own. Councilor says she is to young because her answers consist of I don't know. She knows it's wrong she tries to cover up so she doesn't get caught. She even steals food from kids at school eats out of the school trash or off floor. She has had food poisoning several  times from eating stuff she finds. This has Ben going on since she was 3 and I got her age 2. She wasn't ever food deprived I'm pretty sure it's emotional but the meds the doctors put her on haven't helped either. She will get caught with it in hand and still lie.
Anyone know any solutions or heard of these issues?
She will eat till she pukes then eat some more and this is becoming a daily accurance I do my best to keep 24 eyes on her but life puts me in other parts of house even the bathroom for a minute and she heads to kitchen

The symptoms sound like Prader Willi,  kind of,  except that's readily diagnosable with a DNA test.  I'm assuming (maybe wrongly) that the doctor who declared there is no physical cause for this behavior ruled out PW - but maybe not.

It's kind of amazing how fast docs can be in saying there isn't a physical cause of something when there could well be.

I really would look up Prader Willi then---  and proactively ask your doctors about it.  It's rare. but her eating is very unusual and that fits the profile.    good luck to you!

Mandy, many meds have a working time.  In other words, after a certain amount of time they wear off.  Wondering if this food stealing happens all day long, or only at certain times?
And as I first asked, It would be helpful to know what kind of meds she is on.  I would (hopefully) assume that she has had a complete physical and blood work done to rule out any medical issues.  But, just in case, I have included a link on hyperthyroidism - http://www.chop.edu/service/pediatric-thyroid-center/pediatric-thyroid-disorders/hyperthyroidism.html
as that will cause excessive eating and no weight gain.

My uncle read and article about a girl same way was wondering if there more people dealing with my issues. Her teachers have even caught her stealing out of trash fruit loops that was part of project. She goes first grade next year and we worried about lunch time

I lost connection to this site unfortunately never read any of those response thanks for being consistent and still replying. They only diagnosed her with eating disorder and started meds two months ago.

Yes it's been going on for two years but because of her age she couldn't be medicated and no not over weight I have 24hour watch on her so normally if she gets stuff I get to her before she can eat it. I can't even ask her if she is hungry cause answer is always yes so I just feed her about every 4 hours

Oh, I didn't see that this was old---  or that she'd posted previously.  ???

sm - ;D  That's what you recommended 2 years ago,  too.

Sometimes a very old thread will dredge up,  and I'll read it and think of a response and see that 5 years ago I wrote the very same response I was about to give.

It does seem that after 2 years of this she'd have more answers than before -

Mandy,  I just went to your profile and found that you experienced this two years ago - has she been doing this ever since April two years ago?

If so,  is she excessively overweight?

I'm curious too about the meds she's on,  and what they're trying to treat.

It's very common for children who had a very rocky and unstable beginning to hoard and hide food,  but this level of consumption is unusual.

I was going to ask you how she could possibly eat " two donuts 4corn bread muffins a half loaf of plain bread and a pop tart."  An you answered that in your last paragraph.
what kind of meds is she on?    I assume she has had blood tests for things like a thyroid disorder?
What does she do during the day?  Is she very active or does she run an run and run?
Oh, you said the meds the doctors have her on and mentioned a counselor.  What kind of a doctor are you seeing that prescribed the meds.
I can understand your concern.  This really is a serious problem.

This behavior definitely sounds like a medical issue that should be evaluated by an MD.
