3 year old with a self-hurting habit

My daughter will turn 3 on the 29th of Aug, 2008. She has learned a behaviour from one of her adult friends.

She plays with her genitals. The hole is getting bigger and when she fingers it, the thing swells up and she gets fever.  I have tried many ways to stop her from doing this. I need help.

How do I teach her to stop?

I doubt if her doing this will make her any differant Physically, this is a question to put to your Doctor, definatly when you see the Habit remove her from whatever area she is playing on and do something else with her, maybe some physical Games and Fun,

Thanks a lot. I have been focusing her to stop and say things so that she will stop. Now I will take your advice and distract her.

I am sure a 3 yr old can be made busier. I have consulted a doctor and there are no signs of molestation.

Yes, although she learned this from an older child she was playing with. But now since we have shifted our place she does not see that child any more.

I was very much concerned about her not stopping.

I leave in a place where people do not like to talk about it, and so even the doctors are not much a help as they try to ignore the whole issue gives medication and thats it.

But today I consulted a nice lady doctor who put in time and explained similar things to me.

I am just worried if this will continue till she grows up. Will her genitals be bad by the time she is a teenager as now she already has a bigger hole there?

I just so worried.. Please help.

You do not teach her to stop other than distracting her, you need to address the adult behavior here, they are not adult friends she or he is a child Molestor with a major Problem. See you Doctor and have her examined .
