Harmless "Playing Doctor" or something more?

I just found out that my 8 year old daughter and her 5 year old cousin (also a girl) were "playing a game" where they both pulled down their pants and looked at each other's privates. Beyond that initially disturbing me my daughter later told me that the 5 year old "stuck a play screwdriver up her and it went so deep that it hurted her." They were at her Dad's sisters house and apparently had the door closed. I've addressed that the door not be closed with my daughter and with her cousin's mother. I am very  very concerned as to how these age children would even know about this type of act. I need advice please. She only tells me she didn't know it was going to hurt. I've always discussed with her about good touch and bad touch and all the normal things you must tell them. I don't understand why she thought this was okay. I thought I would start with speaking with her pediatrician to determine what I need to do. I would just like to hear from others. I am shocked and never saw this coming. I've always told her she is never to show her privates or let anyone touch them ever. Please help!

Thank you very much for your response! I spoke to the pediatrician and she pretty much said what you have said. I guess I just wasn't ready for this! Well, when is one ready for this, right? So, I've ordered some books about the differences between boys and girls and another regarding private parts. Yes, it's obviously time. I was just freaking out initially. I plan to let her read the books and then let her know that if she has any questions that we can talk.
Thanks again!

I wouldn't worry about it. Just explain to her that she shouldn't do that until she gets older. Sounds like it might be time for a talk about sex. It's very normal for kids to be curious and play like that.
