She also has ADD..I believe its more of a impulse control thing? As she's done other things like tapping her pencil constantly in class and ect.! I don't see her as being depressed or high anxiety, she's usually pretty pleasant to be around and has a mostly positive outlook on life! We have a pretty relaxed house hold too!
Thank you Specialmom .she's due for a well visit so I will definitely BRG it up to the doctor!
Rockrose: no she's not on any meds?
Is she on any medications that might contribute to this, and make it worse?
Oh, I'm very sorry to hear this. I know that is worrisome. I have a niece that during the night has pulled out almost all of the hair on her head. Very traumatic. You think you can tell them to just stop it but they can't.
Your daughter may actually suffer from an anxiety disorder called trichotillomania. This is the diagnosis my niece has. This is an impulse control disorder. They know they are doing harm to themselves but can not stop the impulse. Depression and anxiety go hand in hand with this as well.
It is tricky to treat. A psychiatrist usually is involved or a psychologist. They do what is called habit reversal therapy. So important to get a handle on it. My niece is now in her mid 20's. She has a 4,000 dollar hair piece she wears. She's been to national seminars about the disorder and belongs to a support group. It's greatly impacted her life.
So, I encourage you to talk to her doctor and begin intervention right away.
Of course she may not have this. However, it does sound like it. Let me know what you think. good luck
