My 7 year old son is urinating in weird places...help

I dont know if this is a sign of a behavior issue or if it might be medical. We came home today and went to pump up the air mattress and found that is had a STRONG odor of urine. after 15 minutes of questioning and his numerous denials, my son finally admitted that he "peed" in the air pump. ( yes, very gross) When asked why, he said that he had to go really really bad.  the bathroom was only up the steps. About a year and a half ago, the same thing happened. We found that he had "peed" in both toy boxes. At the time he had a bathroom in his bedroom. I am concerned and puzzled about what this could mean. Is he just lazy and was so buzy playing that he waited to the very last minute. ( i would have rather he went on himself) or is this a medical issue or maybe even a psych issue. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Keep an eye on it.  From your post it doesn't sound like this is a regular thing for him.  Have there been similar incidents while he is at school?

Honestly, I can't tell you why he is doing this...there are several possibilities.  The infrequency of the incidents suggest that at least at this point, there may not be a serious problem with this.  If I were you, I would hold him accountable him though.  i'm not talking about grounding or taking away privileges.  but maybe make him clean the air pump, etc.

If it continues, maybe you should take him to the doctor just to make sure he doesn't have a bladder problem, etc.

Best of luck
