My 8 year old's obsession

My 8 year old daughter goes crazy when she sees her 2 year old sister picking her nose. She runs into the bathroom and puts liquid hand soap all over my toddler's hands. If I don't wash my toddler's hand right away, my 8 year old begins screaming at me saying that she hates me. I don't know what to do. I've told her I would wash her hands the minute I see her doing it, but that doesn't seem to satisfy her. I'm at my wits end! Any suggestions?

I try to give very little attention to nose picking because it encourages them to do it more.  Wen my older boys complain about this behavior, I remind them that they did it when they were my daughter's age, and older.  You may wish to remind your 8 yr old that you are the mother and will handle this the way you see fit.  I would give her a consequence if she uses hand soap again.  Good luck and God Bless.

Cute.....but seriously, why does this upset her so?  Is it a new, profound understanding of the lurking dangers of germs?  Is it linked to some type of compulsive behavior?  Just sounds a little over the top.  She shouldn't be screaming hateful things at her parent regardless.  Sounds strange.
