My 8yr old son “switches” off communications

He, who is intellectually very advanced, often “switches” off communication in the middle of doing things. Once it happens, no one can communicate with him, he is entirely in his world. It usually happens when he is taking bath or doing his homework. His teacher has also noticed that he is sometimes daydreaming in the class. He does not talk to anyone except to school friends/staff and family members and is never able to use a toilet (for poo). Should I seek a professional advice?

Personally I dont think its required but as always if it is concerning you definatly take advice .I have seen this behavior before and very often it is the brightest chilren who tune out,his thoughts are probably on something else and he is deep in thought, have you asked him what he is thinking about when he doesnt seem to hear' you .In Class it could be out of boredom, I would stare out of the window in class especially with Math, my worst subject, my thoughts were always on other things .As I said though if you are concerned speak to your Doctor for advice .
