My son (age 10 1/2) has been on Celexa for ADHD and anxiety due to Sensory Processing Disorder since age 8 1/2. We did a LOT of research and had a struggle with wanting to put an 8 year old child on any medication at all. However, in his best interest we tried it. It had an immediate, and awesome effect. He wasn't afraid anymore! He still had attention and focus issues but it seemed manageable because he wasn't freaking out over everything anymore. We had one small increase maybe a few months after that and then recently, within the last year it seems to be losing its effectiveness. He's starting to have tantrums again about every 6 weeks. We did bump him up again a few months ago but now his attention and focus is once again awful to the point where everyone notices it, not just teachers but family members councilor etc. He's irritated over everything and will obsessively ask questions or repeat statements like "I love you". Which as a mom is great.....until you hear it 50-60 times a day or more and it seems more like a rewind in a tape. My question is, do we bump him up yet again, pull him off altogether, switch meds (which scares me because I was told Celexa was the best and safest to put him on) or do we accept that he is a 10 1/2 year old pre-teen boy and going through normal stuff for his age but due to his issues is having trouble processing it.
