I am sorry you must have slipped by when the messages got busy, you know children seem to accept and cope better than we do, I think it depends on the child and the temprement, if it is an older child they will be very distressed whilst younger ones dont really understand. Sometimes they go very quiet and other time smay get angry, its best to just let them be and talk it through especially if they are older. Good Luck

I can't believe that no one has responded to your question!! I am so sorry for that.

Coping with the loss of a loved one is a very personal situation for each child. There are so many factors that weigh into how the child copes. I'm not an expert by any means as to what you might want to do other than to say the child should receive some sort of emotional therapy after the event. Even if they say they don't want or need it.

My son's father did not get the help he needed after the loss of his mother (at the age of 13) and it had devastaing affects on him as an adult. I'll keep it brief, but I will state that he got arrested for spousal abuse & lost rights to his child. He was also hospitalized after a suicide attempt which was the first time he ever really started getting the help he needed. He starting taking anti-depressants and was able to finally open up about his pain while in rehab which has dramatically turned his life around.

I'm proud to say that he is now a great dad & a wonderful spouse. However, I live with an abuser who still struggles everyday to help keep his mind focused in the right direction. He still has his bad days but he never raises his hand to me or the kids. Usually, he stops & diffuses himself before he even starts to raise his voice.

I don't know what the situation is exactly for you or your loved one, but please do everything you can to prevent this story from becoming their own.
