connecting the dots

My son os 19 mos and has (what I see as) a few delays in different areas.  He is speech delayed (mom and dad only) he will no longer clap or wave and he won't point.  He is very happy and affectionate but I can't help but think his speech and developemental delays are connected?  We have an early intervention set up for next week and need to know if I'm under or overreacting.

I think it would be a good idea to make an appointment with a developmental pediatrician,  or even an Occupational Therapist for an assessment.

best wishes.

He did clap and wave from 6 or 7 mos until about 13 mos.  He never pointed.  So, not only delayed but some regression.  On our 18 mos check up our Pediatrician didn't seemed concerned, so we decided on early intervention.  I guess the real question is do we bypass the intervention and make an appointment with a developemental pediatrician?
