i need help with my 8 year old

by candysousley, Jan 23, 2008 09:11PM
I have an 8 year old who has heard voices most of his life, and until recently was able to control his major melt downs. In the past three weeks the melt downs have become more frequent and very violent. He says the voices are louder and harder to understand. He was recently committed to a mental hospital. I was woundering what this could be signs of. Can you help me?

The first one that popped right into my head is schizofrenia. Of course I don't know if an 8 year old can be schizofrenic, because I thought people develop it a little older. But it definitely makes sense concerning the voices and such. I hope he becomes better. Stay strong.

Childhood schizophrenia is rare but not unheard of. A good child psychiatrist would be able to address this issue.
