Head growing but nothing else

Hi,

My just over 2 and a half year old girl had severe GORD and occasional NG tube feeding to combat failure to thrive up to age 2. She was under a great pead. gastro specialist at the childrens hospital and dietician support in conjunction with this. I have been battling with weight her whole life and very often under the 3 percentile for height and weight. She was discharged at 2 and taken off meds when she hit 10kgs. her refflux seems under control and she is not in pain with no vomitting. I now know what she is keeping in and has an extremely high fat/calorie diet, although still occasionally a little fussy. she likes all meat and fish and dairy etc. just not much of any. I feed her as often as she wants.

Her head has now hit the 100% percentile after it being around the 25% when born. Here weight and height are in line with here birth postion of 10%. She is very talkative with extreme energy and finds it hard to sit still. She is spelling things now and trying to write letters as well as colouring inside lines, so fine motor is great. Gross motor however is very bad, with clumsiness and lot's of falls. She has hed 1 concusion and 1 lost tooth this year!! All was checked out after with CT etc...

Sorry to be longwinded, but should I be worried??? I know all the tricks to get her to eat and her diet was delclared exceptional by her dietician at the Childrns hospital. I am a nervous wreck, and I just need to be told that she will be fine.... i am a single mother too so the whole responsibilty is with me and I think the pressure of no support is also getting to me.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me with your views.

p.s I am 58kgs and 170cms if that helps, but was a fat bubby!

It sounds like you are doing well with her. It is a slow road but she is growing steady and that is what is important. Keep up the good work.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for your words of support, I'm glad that your son is a big strong boy, that's one less thing to worry about!

It was lovely to have you say that you understood the isolation, I sometimes feel like no one understands but clearly you would!!

Thanks again for your kind words and keep me posted if you ever need a sounding board!

Best wishes,

Jo

I just wanted to say that someone has read your post.

I am also a single mother and know how difficult it is to get emotional support.  You'll find it here!

I don't know anything about a "small" child (my son is 7 and is almost 5 feet tall, and weighs 88 pounds), so I can't tell you anything you don't already know.

Just wanted to say someone read your post!  Best of luck.
