difference between symptoms and testing for chlamydia and/or gonorrhea

by dexterhall, Sep 29, 2009 02:12AM
i recently had unprotected oral sex and went to the doctor to get tested exactly 11 days later for any and all possible STDs. one week later my blood and urine tests all came back clean and negative and i haven't had sex since.

i feel that i have been having some symptoms of chlamydia or gonorrhea (itchy urethra, urethra opening seems a bit pink, tender testicles) even after i was tested negative. Despite the tests coming back negative, i was just wondering if for a test to come back positive, does there need to be symptoms present? More specifically, because i've been reading that sometimes SYMPTOMS don't appear til after 1-14 days, does that mean that any time before any symptoms appear, you are more likely to test as a false negative? or regardless of having any symptoms or not, 11 days has been more than an adequate amount of time to be tested for any infection and i should just trust the results?

thank you in advance

Herpes, syphilis, and rarely gonorrhea are transmitted orally. You would not get a genital infection from this even so. So this is probably not a STD. A urologist can help you with this.
