I have been coughing for about a year..

I'm 16 y.o boy. I don't know why but since about last year in August, I start coughing. It kept coming back on and off. Usually its just a light cough, like when you feel like your throat is itchy, but its not..so more like you imagine it. But this never happened to me before. Sometimes it gets severe (like a normal, rough cough), but no mucus. And I don't know why but my breath smell so bad in the morning everyday after I wake up.
Anyone knows whats wrong with me?
Is it allergy or..?
My doctor checked and told me it's just cold..and when i'd come back to him.. he'd say its pollen allergy...So i'm really lost and confused.
