Pain in throat neck?

Three weeks ago I got very sick with a slight fever, horrible headache and the worst sore throat ever! along with body ashes.  I woke on a Saturday and saw that my throat had white/yellow spots everywhere and it was so swollen i couldn't move my neck, swollow, or bend.  I went to the hopital because I wanted antibiotics but the strep test came  back negative and they gave me penacillin to take twice a day to "ward anything off" and i just had a bad sore throat.   Well it got even worse and i went to my real doc and they gave me what they called the "Z" pack and i tool 2 pills the first day and 1 for four more days.  They could n't test me for strep because i had been on an antibiotic and it wouldn't show up. I felt like it went away for a week and now for about two weeks then i started seeing white spots again and garggled salt water and it seemed to go away.  NOw it is back and it looks a little white/yellow and red swollen adn I'm trying to gargle but it seems not to be doing enough.  I feel lots of pain really far down my throat almost like in my neck when i swollow. Its getting really hard to eat.  Is there anything i can do besides going to the doctor i don't want to go on antibiotics again there not good but i can't seem to get rid of this awful sore throat!
