Re occuring illness..need advice

Hi,

I had a very high strain of tonsilitus at end of Aug beginning of Sept last year and have never felt so ill in my life, took me over 2 weeks to get over it. As I am 23 years old and never usually get unwell or pick up bugs, this hit me hard! However, what I'm more concerned about is since this illness, I have had 3 throat infections and 2 bad colds and it's only Feb! I have made a doctors appointment for next week as I once again am layed up wiv cold/sore throat. I did have this about 3 weeks ago, then my mum got it about a week ago and think I must of caught it back off her. Has anybody had this experience after tonsilitus? or could it just be poor immunity? Was thinking of asking the doctor for a throat swab to see if there is an infection living in my throat? any thoughts on what I should do next? would appreciate advice. Thank You :)

hello,
a throat swab would help if you think that it could be like a strep throat infection. And if you are having strep throat and tonsilitus over and over again you should start testing and throat swabing just incase you may need to have them out. Youre 23 so you would be past the age that they usually remove tonsils, it would be tougher on you. But if you getting painful infections 3 to 5 or more times a year it may be worth it. if its just a sore throat and cold, theres nothing you can really do. Colds and Flus are going arround bad this year Everywhere. Hang in There! :-)
