not sure if a flu or somethign else is casuing me ache

I was hanging out with a friend for the full day who was in the middle of a flu last Saturday. (He couldn't speak that day)
2 days later on Monday (Day 1), I had a swollen lymph node that hurts a lot when I press it.
I started taking ginseng extract (Cold-assist) and megadosing myself with zinc and vitamin C pill)
Day 3, I started to have the tingly sensation for cough and so I started cough syrup.  It worked and reduced cough only to morning and night times.
Day 4-6, same medicine, mainly just cold-aid and vitamin C and cough syrup to control the cough.  A couple of instances of chill and night sweats.
Day 5-6 Appearance of noticeable muscle ache, and a bit of headache
Day 7 Cough pretty much gone by now
Day 10 (Today) - No more cough but still noticeable muscle ache... some headache, gland still swollen but not much pain when I pressed it.

I am not sure if this is a flu, but i do know from the doctor that a flu is circulating around the city that I am living in. I never really had any fever, just occasionally feel a bit warmer.

And I hope this is not a STD infection: protected encounter 8 weeks ago (symptom appeared a bit more than 7 weeks later and coincide with my friend's flu, tested negative 2 weeks ago)

I just want to know if it is normal for a flu to last this long... and in my progression where a fading cough and soar throat gives way to muscle ache that has lasted some 4 days now.  And what can I do to treat it and feel better soon.  I am feeling fine except for the occasional fatigue/headache and constant muscle ache.

Thanks
