Are you under the care of a pulmonary specialist and an Internist? You should be. You don't say how old you are, but I am 75, have a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and you are describing just how I feel every day. I am on Advair inhaler, as well as an emergency in haler. Do you get a flu shot each year? and did you have a pneumonia shot? These are both critical to those of us who have COPD, or have had pneumonia, bronchial pneumonia, or bronchial asthma, etc. Not knowing your age, it's not possible for me to say you have what I have, but we sound like we are in similar situations. If you are able to get along without working any longer, and have SS and insurance, or other income, sit back and relax. I keep my memory pretty sharp by reading a lot of things on the internet, doing crossword puzzles, playing cribbage, and watching a lot of news and challenging shows like Jeopardy and others that challenge the memory. Wishing you well...and get in to that pulmonary specialist! They are necessary for you and for me.

I'm sorry for all you have gone through. You have to take it slow and begin to walk even a few steps at a time and eventually you will get your strength back. The memory is probably due to hypoxia or lack oxygen to the brain. This happened to my uncle. It took him a  few months and he eventually started to get back to normal.  Everyone recovers in their own pace. Be kind to your self. I had a back injury and it is taking me 3-4 years to get to walking 2 miles. I was just able to walk in the house before due to sitting for  a long period. So, start with trying to read and maybe then do cross word puzzles or some thing like that. Anything to challenge your mind. Do easy things then try harder things. But at first few months don't worry about it.  Another friend of mine had a concussion and it took him a year to get his memory right and it is still off a bit. So, I think the brain heals on it own pace. You might want to see a neurologist if you haven't yet and follow up with them to see how you make progress. Or go to rehab if you haven't had that suggested to you. I am just thinking.  But the fatigue is normal from being in bed and the brain has to recover. Same goes for the memory. I do think you should follow up with a neurologist at some point and I think rehab would be good if you haven't done it yet. They may give you some exercises specific to your needs.
