cough cough cough cough cough cough!!!

Help!! I have had the "real" flu-the whole achy body, chills, fever, etc since March 2nd! Started with a cough. I saw my Dr right at the start, she gave me Tamiflu..dont know if it really made any difference or not. I woke up one morning about a week ago, with one ear plugged solid. Hearing dimished alot. That is still the case. But Im also left with the worst cough I have ever had in my life. Its totally dry, hacking painful unproductive cough. Very loud--and very, very frequent. Ive been to Urgent Care, who put me on meds for the ear infection..and gave me cough meds with codeine for nighttime sleeping. Well, it doesnt touch it. And as far as daytime..like today, 14 days since I started this flu, I sit at work totally miserable, and irritating everyone around me with this horrible cough. Anybody else experience this flu like this?? I feel just about as sick today, as I did 14 days ago--except for the chills and muscle aches! When will it ever go away??? I think my chest will explode from the coughing! Yet, the ER Dr just this past Thurs said my lungs are clear...and that the cough could linger for a month!! I wont be able to stand it!!!

Hi,

cough is such a thing which takes away most of your energy and makes you feel very much tired by the end of the day. Dry cough is common after an attack of flu, for some individuals it lasts for weeks together. You can try taking some antibiotics (like Augmentin) and cough syrup (with dextromethorphan or codeine) if you are having any gastric problems do take medicines for that. Apart from the above medicines drink plenty of warm that will soothe the throat. Any doubts you are welcome.

I completely understand what everyone here is saying.  4 weeks ago, I had flu like symptom for 2 days, and after that.....THE COUGH.  It started in the chest and worked it's way up my throat , until it hurt to even swallow.   Went to the DOC... yada, yada, yada  I have "something"  here are antibiotics, that was ten days ago.  I have been coughing up phlem the whole time.  Well, I am done with the MEDS and guess what?  I cough is getting worse and I  now have head congestion and my ears are getting plugged. I couched up a small amount of blood this morning.   This is no "normal seasonal cold"  I know of at least 5 others and are experiencing the same thing.  Any Doctors out there that can clue us in on what is going on?

I swear there is the same thing going around where I live. I caught a BAD cold in January, when I usually catch NO colds. The cough lingered for a month and a half.

I had a flu like bug about a month ago. The cough has remained weeks after. My doctor said that this is normal, but it gets no better. It is dry, non-productive, and annoying. When I laugh, get excited, or nervous, it gets worse. So far I can sleep through the night OK. I felt fine besides that. My doctor gave my doxycycline hylate and that has so far made me feel worse. I know have intermittent flu like symptoms and my sinuses are clogged. By the way the cough has not improved. I have only been on it for now my 3rd day so I guess I will see. I hope things ends soon. I want to be back to normal already. Wish I had something else that I could suggest but I wanted you to know that I know what you are going through.

Have you tried using any more natural remedies? sometimes i feel that the medicines given dont always work, i dont know maybe the bugs are immune to them or something.
Anyway, i always try to use more natural stuff. I had the real flu too not all that long ago and i found that my symptoms went very quickly after using the black elderberry.
i hope you feel better soon. remember to stay hydrated and try to get lots of rest.
