Crohn's questions

I finally saw a new gastro dr today.  The one I was going to didn't listen to me at all and I got to the point I just wouldn't go. My symptoms finally go so severe I had to but I found a different dr.  He told me that he believe's I have Crohn's.  I have my colonoscopy on Dec 5th to confirm this.  My concern now is that I have been brushed off by my previous dr and waited so long to seek help that I'm not real sure what options I will have. I have been suffering untreated for over a yr.  I am 15-20 lbs under weight and stay in constant pain.

I am relieved to finally have a dr that listened and not just say a nervous stomach was the cause of all my issues.  I am also nervous as to what he will find and the severity of it when he does the colonoscopy.  I'm hoping that possibly I can get some advise or info on what my options may be.

It's good you lik your doctor and you can hold on without meds for pain. I did for a long time. Untill I got arthritis and pinched nerves in my back. Then I had to. I don't like it one bit! I don't know if your a beliver, but I will pray for you.

Thank you for your response.  I have been reading up on Crohn's since my new Dr mentioned it.  I all the symptoms are  exactly as I had stated to the dr.  I thought I had apendisidice 5 months ago and ended up in the ER.  They said it was "colitis" right where the small and large intestines meet.  When I told the dr this was when he said he believed it to be crohn's.

I would like to avoid any surgery.  Luckily, I do like this dr and have confidence in him.  It's been a few yrs since I have been able to say that.  I have never asked for pain med's either.  Since I haven't been "believed", I felt I would look like some sort of druggie and would not be taken seriously.  When at it's worse, I am in bed for 2 straight days.  After the colonoscopey, I hoping he see's that this is bad and will prescribe them without having to ask.  I have manage to not miss any work but it is hard to function in pain 24/7.

A test is the way to find out how severe it is but if it"s crohns you will have to be patient there is no quick fix.Drugs can help alot. I"m sorry you had a bad experiance  like I did with the doctor. I can only say I have never found a very caring one In 20 years. Try bowel rest, thats all they do in the hospital for you it really helps a flare up. Lots of liquids and no fiber.Surgery is always the last resort ,Because it comes right back in more places.I found out the hard way!                                                                                                                                                                                               PS like your name
