You are welcome. Please let me know what you find out. If the physician you see does not have an answer, take your son to another. In the end I had to so a lot of screaming to get a diagnosis for my mine.
I finally found this wonderfully kind and intelligent pediatric gastro who listened intently to my concerns as I cried in his office with frustration and fear. I will never forget that day. He laid his hand on my shoulder and said, "Mom let me do the worrying, you've carried this long enough. I will find out what's wrong with your son." And so he did.
My hope for you and your son is that you will find the same type of ped/gastro that I did. Best wishes, Tuck

Hi Moosebug29,
My son had those very same symptoms almost from birth. They started as you describe you son's stools. I took him to physician after physician. They "guessed" and tested for everything from gluten digestive issues to celiac syndrome. He failed to thrive. And though he was almost 10 lbs at birth he was always in the 3-5% on the growth scale.
Finally at twelve he was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. He had a very tough and stressful adolescence as well as his high school years due to his disease. I am not saying that your son has Ulcerative Colitis but please make an appointment with a good pediatric gastroenterologist and get your son is asap. It may be helpful if you can take a stool sample with you on the day of your appointment. A sample that has the mucus and blood that you are referring to in your post. But I would ask the clinic when you make the appointment.
If his bleeding continues or increases you may want to take the sample and him into ER. Good luck to you and your son. I know what you are experiencing and I encourage you to be active and assertive to find a diagnosis for your son.
Good luck and take care, Tuck
