What I am getting from your post is that children's approach to education begins in the home. I couldn't agree more. If I had ever skipped school and been caught, I would have been in big trouble. My parents always told me that school was my job. If I didn't show up to work, I would be fired. With no education, no future. I was always taught to do my best, and they would stand up for me if they thought things weren't fair or just. So I learned to not be afraid to question, but still to respect. It was a good approach as far as I am concerned.
Yes I agree but there are other concerns as well. I remember when I went to school I not only took it as a responsibility I enjoyed some of the classes and looked forward to them as well. Some of this attitude is coming from peer pressure from other students which at times can encourage this kind of attitude. Some of it is coming from the irresponsbility of (some, though not many) parents who have this kind of approach themselves and encourage it in their kids. Also some schools could change the learning environment to be more receptive which is what some schoolds where I live were required to do. If schools had above a certain amount of students who were underperforming they were reshaped entirely and depending on the extent somtimes some staff were changed and/or they were replaced by charter schools.
People may or may not agree with this approach and I have my concerns as well but its better than what is described that just sounds manipulative and would encourage irresponsbility. When I was in school in having a learning disability I took advantage of what there was there to achieve better grades but I had been encouraged to take this approach to begin with. There should be a middle ground but paying students is out of the question.
That is stupid. Seriously. Another wonderful lesson to teach our children. "There are laws in life, but you should be compensated to obey them?" Yep, raising a whole generation of messed up children with this type of attitude.
Hey it's free....All they have to do is go to school....I'd be happy with that..lol
I would be surprised if 100.00 would be incentive enough anyway...
I did all my chores and then some. If I didn't pass with at least a B, oh boy did I ever get paid....
I dont think any of those kids have any more committments than I did years ago. I took care of younger siblings, cleaned and ironed and did the laundry, packed lunches for the next school day and was expected to complete my studies and make an A or a B regardless, if I wasnt running a temp, I was in school, period. No ifs ands or buts about it. Again, parents that do not parent seems to be the issue and the school parenting when it is paid to teach. UM Hello!
