Does Anyone Care?

Seriously, I read this and am sick. There needs to be a number so familiar to everyone like 911, that is just for people that dont want their kids, regardless of the age--with no punishment to the parent giving up the child!
Am I missing something here? Is there some kind of financial payoff for people to keep kids they do not love?
This makes no sense!

I just looked it up, and I can't find anything definitive saying what's legal and not legal, or protected or not protected when it comes to dropping off a child at a police-station, fire-station, hospital, etc, as Michelle stated. All I could find was that people DO it, but there doesn't seem to be any sort of formal legislation (that I could find) in any of the 50 states.

Does anyone know of anything on that front? I'll do some more digging, but more eyes are better than just my 2.

I'd be VERY interested in writing to my Congressman and getting something like that proposed and put into LAW, or at least have it protected, so parents of said unwanted child(ren) being dropped off, weren't subject to criminal prosecution should they chose to take the drop-off route.

bbxx... you seem pretty handy on this here computer thingamajig. Maybe you can dig something up.

I agree, we need to care for our own first, and I agree with what El said on both counts-we need drop off places for unwanted kids and - our country is in quite a pickle.

I agree teko.  My kids are wanting to donate some of their money to a charity to help children.  I told them that I'd like it to be a local organization.  While I have such sympathy for others around the globe that have hungry and neglected children, we have many in our own backyards that we need to take care of.

My understanding is that a newborn can be taken to a police station, fire station, or hospital to give their baby up without any questions.  I don't know if that is a law in all 50 states, but if it's not, they need to make it one.  I would much rather that than a baby being abused/neglected.

I agree with you el... And on the other hand, ya got those that want them so badly and cannot have them. Seems to me that we got our heads screwed on backwards or somethin. We should not have to go to a foreign country to adopt children. We have plenty right here at home.

I couldn't make it through the entire article...

Did you know that in some African countries, there are "drop boxes" that you can put/drop unwanted babies? Yup. An alarm ring someplace, people are dispatched to retrieve the baby, and then the baby is taken into custody for treatment and placement into a home that might want a child.

No repercussions against the mother/father that don't want the child. Of course, there are size limitations one would imagine, and it's set up for newborns/babies, but still... instead of torturing a poor child, why don't people simply drop them off at the nearest orphanage, or police station, or hospital, or something like that?

Then again, if a parent abandon's their child, they'll be cited for abandonment or neglect or something like that, and their child will be TAKEN away from them.

Quite the pickle we've gotten ourselves into. People that have children that don't want children... what to do, what to do, what to do...

I have a bad feeling about The Casey Anthony trial. I am afraid it may turn into another OJ Trial. Everyone knows she is guilty but is there enough evidence to convict her of all of the charges? She just may be acquitted on some of the charges. I hope not but who would have ever thought OJ would walk.

I just googled it,apparently her bones were found in a tree, and no-one had seen her for 31 days prior to the grandmother calling the police, every time the grandma asked to see her the daughter told her she was at the babysitters,
For some reason a few months after the disappearence and discovery of the bones the grandfather tried to commit suicide, weird.

2-year-old Caylee Anthony disappeared in the summer of 2008, it was Casey's mother, Cindy Anthony, who finally called police.

At that time, Cindy Anthony told the 911 operator, "There's something wrong, I found my daughter's car today, and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car."

While a desperate search was launched for the little girl, Casey was taken into custody.

The 22-year-old insisted she had left her daughter with a nanny. But police have never been able to confirm that story.

In a prison call, Cindy Anthony said to her daughter, "Your gut tells you she's close or she's hiding."

Casey Anthony replied, "She's not far. ... I know in my heart she's not far."

Caylee wasn't far. Six months after she vanished, her skeletal remains were found less than a mile from her home.

In the following months, the district attorney has been building a case against Casey. Prosecutors say they have forensic evidence of hair found in the trunk of her car that they say came from the child's dead body. They also have circumstantial evidence - pictures of Casey, partying with friends while her daughter was missing. In a recent interview with CBS' "48 Hours Mystery," prosecutors said this is where the case will be won.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi told CBS News, "The photographs, I believe, are what's going to get her. The photographs of her out dancing, partying all night long. That is the most compelling evidence of all."

But Kenney Baden said, "We don't convict people on pictures. We don't convict people on 'she didn't act right' evidence."

There is no DNA evidence tying Casey to the field where Caylee's body was found, Cobiella points out, no confession and no evidence of how Caylee was killed. The coroner's report ruled her death a "homicide by undetermined means."

They are selecting a jury now....

Exactly! Why why why do people keep a child they obviously do not love? I am so sick of seeing stories like this! I just wonder what is the pay off for them to even hold on the child. Why? The poor little guy, oh wow, it makes me SICK!

Narla- I havent watched the news in a long time and only check the computer news for a few min. Its so depressing. Anyway--all I remember was she was a little girl missing. Not sure whatever happened. Teko?

What is the Casey and Kailey Anthony case?
Where were the authorities in all this, aren't there records in the US if a 13 year old doesn't attend school, this happened 2 years ago, surely red flags should have shown up somewhere.
But like you said teko,it is pure evil.

You know what gets me,you can leave an animal at the RSPCA if you don't want it,but there is nowhere to leave an unwanted child.Go figure.
