Who's the father of my child

Hi,

I'm new to this. I recently found out I am pregnant. My LMP was 27th Dec 2015 and (according to ovulation calculator) I was ovulating from 7th-12th January 2016. I had unprotected sex 1st, 3rd & 4th January 2016 with the person I'm currently seeing .. Then I had unprotected sex with my ex on the 10th January but he didn't ejaculate inside of me until probably the early hours of the morning on 11th January and I took the emergency contraceptive on the 12th January.

Does anyone have any input on who would be the father and if the emergency pill would be effective ?

I also went on a few sites to do the conception calculations and they all came back with conception date being 9th-10th Jan.

I think things still favor your ex.  You're going to need a DNA test to be totally sure, but the date you just gave counts back to January 10 for conception, if my calendar is correct.

Just a thought.......the fact that the scan on the 10th feb was said as being 5 weeks 4 days (if you back those 5weeks 4days it takes you to 2nd Jan) would it be at all possible that this scan does in fact count  back to conception? If that being the case then I'd say your current partner is most likely the father! Also based on the timescale of seeing baby's heartbeat! x

I suppose I should have asked you this before, but was January 4 the last time you had sex with the guy you are currently seeing (before you learned you were pregnant)?  If so, he is looking awfully early to be the father.  As you report what the doctor said, everything is pointing to around January 16 for conception.  Sperm from the 11th could last that long, but not from the 4th.

Yes, the 4th Jan was the last time I had sex with my current partner before I found out. I had to get another ultrasound done yesterday 5/04/2016 as I have had heavy bleeding. Baby is fine and heart rate is good. The sonographer says I'm 14 weeks and 2 days when I thought I was 13 weeks. Should I still go by how many weeks I am from the first scan ?

"On the day she said to me you're about 5 weeks 4 days," - what day was that?

10th February. Just wondering if it is possible to get a heartbeat of 110bpm as early as 5weeks 4 days? If not, could I be a little bit further along than what they say I am?

She didn't give me estimated date like she said she was goin to. (I also forgot to ask her about it aswell). She just told me how many weeks I was and the measurements. I did tell her when I had sex and she said that I most likely fell conceived on the 11th January but she doesn't know for sure ...

I get conception at around January 17 if you are 6 weeks tomorrow.  Did the doctor tell you your ex was the father based on your explanation?  (You do know that if a doctor tells you that you are "6 weeks pregnant" or "6 weeks Gestational Age," that means 4 weeks since conception?)  Did the doctor tell you that you were 6 weeks along, or did he gve you the estimated due date?

I am currently 6 weeks as of 13th Feb 2016. Estimated due date 8th October 2016. Doc says it's more than likely my ex who is the father and the emergency contraception (obviously) didn't work.

Thanks for your input. I go for my ultrasound this coming Wednesday as I'll be 6 weeks so hopefully they can pinpoint a date of conception.

Hi, your info tends to suggest your ex, but there is still a chance for the guy you are seeing, especially if you have irregular cycles.  The first thing to try in hopes of clarifying the situation would be to get an ultrasound right away.  An ultrasound in the 6th or 7th week of pregnancy (counted from the first day of the last period) can be used to try to pinpoint conception. (Later ultrasounds are too late, as they begin to get a margin for error such that by week 12, they can be off by 7 days.)  So get in now and get one, even if you have to pay out of pocket.  Ask the doctor to give you an estimated due date based only on the measurements of the embryo and its developmental markers, not on the first day of your last period (if you have to, tell the doctor's office that you don't remember when your last perod was, so that information doesn't color the results.)  You can then enter the estimated due date they give you into an online calculator, to give you an estimated conception date.

If you can't get an ultrasound now (and believe me, it's worth getting one at this time even if you have to call a few doctors), then your only other option would be to go to Ravgen or the DDC for a prenatal DNA test.  These cost $1,600 and up, but at least they will answer your question.  If the question is not going to drive you crazy, you can opt for a DNA test when the baby comes for something like a tenth of the cost of a prenatal test.
