help confused!

Is pregnancy counted from the day the egg is fertilized or when implantation occurs? I'm confused because I had sex oct 20th and 21st but says I ovulated on the 27th when I also had sex. I went for a gender determintation when I was suppose to be 16 weeks gestational age and the aua was 14 weeks and 6 days which was oct 22 but I didn't supposibly conceive or ovulate until the 27th. I went in for an ob appointment when I was suppose to be 17 weeks and 6 days and the doctor said my babys GA was 15 weeks and 2 days which wouldve been oct. 31st after I had sex and conceived on the 27th so its all confusing. Is it maybe because of implantation? Or is the babys Ga counted from fertilization or implantation and wwhat is the accuracy of an AUA?

By everything you are giving on the ultrasounds, and keep in mind that having them this late gives you a pretty wide margin for error --

First day of last menstrual period:  October 13, 2012
Probable date of ovulation:  October 27, 2012
Possible dates of conception:  October 23 to October 31, 2012
Due date:  July 20, 2013 (40 weeks)

The margin for error can be as wide as a week when you got your dates on a 19w4d or 19w5d ultrasound.  I'm sorry that this does not absolutely clear things up, but at least it explains the one or two day discrepancies.

Where I said "if the ultrasound at 16 weeks was conclusive (i.e., they saw everything they needed to see), it is less reliable than the EDD," I meant it, the AUA, is less reliable than the EDD.

The AUA is explained in http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1372555 -- in your situation, if the ultrasound at 16 weeks was conclusive (i.e., they saw everything they needed to see), it is less reliable than the EDD.  Another article reminds that an ultrasound at 16 weeks is going to mean there is a margin of error:  "An ultrasound performed in the first trimester can indicate fetal age within a range of 3 – 5 days. Up to 20 weeks, the margin of error is 7 – 10 days."

Anyway, please mention the calendar date (like March 2) that is on the very first ultrasound, so we can confirm the July 20 date it says.

Honey, I can't tell where you got your very earliest estimate of the due date.  You said you "went for a measurement."  Was that the tape measure on the stomach, or was it from an ultrasound?  Do you have an actual copy of your VERY FIRST ultrasound report?  If so, does it say x weeks x days, the date (calendar date like March 2), and the due date?

Wait I'm sorry the 15 weeks and 2 days was the fetal age not gestational age

When I went for a measurement of my baby on feb 28th they told me he was 19 weeks and 4 or 5 days and that they would stick to the july 20th due date because it was close to my period cycle due date or something like that. The doctor didn't tell me I saw it on the little computer that when she did an ultrasound when i was 17 weeks and 6 days that the babys ga was 15 weeks and 2 days is that just his growth or when I conceived? And when i went for the fifirst ultrasound on feb 2 my gestational age was suppose to be 16 weeks but the aua was 14 weeks and 6 days which I don't understand

Oh, I just saw your other post giving July 20 (or 21) as the due date.  Did you get that date from an ultrasound?  If so, the calculator says

Probable date of ovulation:  October 27, 2012
Possible dates of conception:  October 23 to October 31, 2012

If your ovulation date was October 27, your pregnancy count would begin two weeks earlier, October 13.  Gestational Age is the what doctors call this count.  I don't know why the doctor would have given you a count that began on October 31 for gestational age if it began October 13.

This brings us back to how you got the due date of  July 20.  Was it from an ultrasound, and if so, how early was it?  Sorry if this repeats other questions, but I didn't have the chance to to re-read all your threads.

What day did the first ultrasound say was your due date?  You can figure everything out from that.
