Conception worry
I’m 37weeks5days today. I had sex with my ex on the 16th of September 2022 (huge mistake was very drunk) it was unprotected! I had the HORMONAL iud at that time but the next day I had it removed because it was time for a new one to get fitted but I never ended getting a new one I wanted a break from it.
Me and my current partner had sex throughout all of October unprotected! I had a heavy bleed on the 16th of October which I thought was a period but could also of been implantation…
Now I was ready some things online where implantation can happen around the 6th - 7th week of pregnancy which can delay the pregnancy. So this is why I’ve been so worried thinking maybe the sex from September could have made me pregnant. I took a pregnancy test on the 20th of October when the bleed img stopped and it was a negative result.
I then tested positive on the 8th of November so I booked in for an early scan on the 16th of November and the woman couldn’t see anything not even the gest sac so I must of been to early for that scan. I went back on the 7th of December and she told me I was around 8 weeks pregnant. My due date is the 19th of July. My baby has been measuring 3-4 weeks ahead on her stomach but everywhere else has been normal size to my weeks of pregnancy. I’m soooo worried that the September sex made pregnant:(

Hi I was so worried because I heard that sperm can survive inside 7 days and I was thinking that I had late implantation and would have ovulated on the 22nd of September.
7 days is pretty long for sperm to survive in your body with no egg to fertilize, the usual number is 4-6 days and even then, medical science is doubtful the sperm is mighty enough to penetrate the egg by day 6. But besides, you're mixing up the idea of the age of the embryo with the idea of when implantation was. The embryo begins the day the sperm meets the egg. In your far-fetched scenario with which you are frightening yourself, this would be September 22 (though it's not realistic). The embryo doesn't begin to have cellular division and development the day it implants, it starts the day sperm meets egg. Ultrasounds measure the baby's development, not the day the embryo implanted. You had a pregnancy test October 20 that was negative, which even if you had an embryo that began on September 22, would have been positive by October 20. Your first ultrasound November 16 did not show a sac, which it would have certainly done by the end of your fourth week. Plus you have had ultrasounds all along. Nothing suggests conception September 22. Please talk to your counselor or therapist about your anxiety.
Hi I appreciate your response and I appreciate the reassurance I’ve had a few mums on this baby site tell me to get a paternity test and trying to scare me. So that’s why I’ve been doubting things… I forgot to mention when I went on the 16tj of November they told me I had a thickened endometrium but the scan I had was a trans abdominal so it’s probably why they couldn’t pick anything up… I really do believe Everything your saying it’s just the other mums telling me I need to do a paternity test is what was scarring me .

Let's talk about your understanding of stuff you have been reading on the Internet. You suggest heavy bleeding that looked like a period was "implantation bleeding." Um, no. Implantation bleeding is largely an Internet myth. If it were to happen, it would be a little wisp of blood one time in vaginal secretions. An embryo is smaller than the dot on the i in this sentence, it is not going to produce gushers of blood for days. Uteruses are not built to bleed out when the baby implants, there would be no babies if they did. MedHelp has never seen a credible report from a woman who has actually ever even seen a wisp of blood around the time she got pregnant. It's something women write about online mostly to pearl-clutch and scare themselves.

No, implantation does not happen around the 6th-7th week of pregnancy. Embryos implant somewhere from the 6th to the 10th day after fertilization. If they don't, they fail. By then, they need the nutrition of the uterine wall or they don't go on.
Actual medical evidence (not your fears talking):
- You took a pregnancy test on October 20 that gave you a negative.
- Your first ultrasound on November 16 didn't show an embryo or gestational sac and it was 8 weeks after the sex September 16. Your scan on December 7 shows an embryo whose conception was around October 26.
If you are thinking an embryo was hiding for more than 8 weeks, unattached to you, and didn't attach to you until after your pregnancy test and ultrasound, please just stop thinking that, it's simply b.s. Don't let existential anxiety or nerves (or guilt about having the drunken sex with Mr. Wrong) cause you to lose touch with your ability to be clearheaded and to listen to medical evidence. Take care of yourself, you're going to be a mommy, and will need to heed doctors all through your child's life. Don't let fears or guilts run any show.
