paxil then wellbutrin sr feeling strange

I went through the process of going off paxil and started wellbutrin about 4 days ago.  I noticed in the last two days I feel like when I walk I'm out of balance, when I talk I have a hard time remembering things.  I just feel fuzzy and not normal.  I had to take a loritab left from some surgery I had last year for the headache I was getting. I remember when I started paxil I didn't notice any different feelings except that I wasn't depressed.  Is this a side effect of Wellbutrin SR or is it from coming off the paxil?  I have to go to work tomorrow & not sure if I can make it through the day feeling so disoriented. I went on the wellbutrin so that I won't have the side effects of weight gain & sexual side effects, now I'm not sure how great Wellbutrin is, except I'm not sure if this is really how it is because doesn't it usually take two weeks to take effect?  Thanks!!

I missed my last script appointment and decided that what I was taking all this medicine specifically, Paxil 25mg CR and about 2 weeks of strattera for ADD, (symptons are there for ADD but never took medicine for it.

Anyway, I just decided to stop since the medicine was not assisting with the current reason for taking the medicine: outbursts when my kids push that very last button.  Its been 5 days and I have dizzy spells that feel like my blood sugar going up and down.  Eating helps.  I too have had very vivid dreams, some sex, (some about my old boyfriend although these were showing up previously).  I have night sweats as well.  3 days after the cold turkey my sex drive returned.  I get extremely tired but a good nap will help.  I am more aware of the ADD in my speech and my thoughts but that feels normal.

The dizzy spells started at the time I started the strattera and began unknowingly a sinus infection. So how do I decipher what is what.

My personal opinion of Paxil from 10 years of therapy and 1.5yrs on the medication is this...We chose to go on it for a reason; And at the time it seems that the choice was survival.  Now everything that has been supressed emotional responsiveness and sex drive suddenly comes crashing back.  Its a shock to the system and hopefully enough therapy work will have been done so that I don't short circuit out.

As long as the withdrawl won't kill us, I will withstand the punishment and hopefully be in a better place when its done.  I need to know who I am again without any assistance.  It has helped seeing your response to know that what I am experiencing is on the normal side.  Hope I didn't psychobable too much and that you are feeling better soon.

Thank you  soooo much Dizzy...I have done the same and feel the same except that I have an added "zoomy" feel that is staggfering. I feel as though I am riding the most hellish rollercoast of my life (and I love roller coasters...but this one coming of cold turkey from paxil is the ride from horror!)
Additionally, I cannot seem to stand bright sunlight and noise. I am the mother of 3 children and it gets loud and noise and chatter is constant...I feel as though sticking needles into my eyes would be more pleasurable !).The last of my 20mg dose Paxil ran out on the 15th...no refills and as I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and on so much other meds...i felt I was doing well enough to bump off the Paxil. WOW! I wish my doctor told me about this...as much as it helped me get through the adjustment bumps of a newly diagnosed RA patient(had to stop career in computer/special FX)...The jump off the Paxil wagon is at best horrible. I would really like to "stick" it out and not do a slow wean now that I've gone this far, but I just want to have a better idea what may be in store for me and for how long. My own doctor is unavailable until next friday and my rheumatologist expects it to pass within a week or two (although he had harsh words for my opting for the "cold turkey", but understood my need to rid a med or two from my ensemble of daily dosages! I am currently on REMICADE, prednisone and Methyltrexate as primaries. Ideas? Suggestions? Sympathy or tongue-lashings appreciated!
Thanks. Oh....I found the Paxil increased my sexual appetite, but I was unable to reach fulfilment while on it...is that a typical effect?

hello everyone! Please give me some insight on this. Okay, first of all, my Doctor told me just to quit taking Paxil cold turkey!!
I had been taking 20mg for about 2 years. I wanted to get off because of financial reasons and weight gain. Also, just wanted to try and see how I'd do without it. I quit taking it 3 days ago. Last night I had the worst nightmares in my life! My husband said I moaned and groaned and cried all night in my sleep. I woke up this morning and could not stop crying. Everytime I try to get up, I feel so dizzy and have a hard time  keeping my balance. I went to get my girl's breakfast out of the oven and dropped the whole tray! I had no idea I'd have these kind of withdrawl symptoms. My doctor did not advise me of any of this! I will call him Monday morning and question his decision of the cold turkey approach. Please help! How long will this last?! Should I ask for some Wellbutrin? Will that ease the withdrawl symptoms? Should I take it into my own hands and take 10mg today then none tomorrow the 10mg again to slowly wean myself instead of going cold turkey? I'm in agony! help! Thanks!

Hi. I know exactly what you're going through. I went through it with Effexor. I was trying to go off the Effexor too fast (in 2 weeks). I was an emotional wreck and had those electrical shocks going through my head. So I added 2 more weeks to my withdrawal period - the first week 1/2 dose, the second week 1/4 dose - just very slowly. That seemed to work. And I didn't experience so many of those awful withdrawal symptoms.

I think anybody who's gone through finding the right antidepressant for them has been through this. One doesn't work so you come off it and try another one, and then that one doesn't work so you withdraw from it and try another one, etc. During this process of withdrawing from these drugs you're on an emotional roller coster ride until you find the right medicine for you.

It's sad that people don't know about these withdrawal symptoms before they start taking these medicines. Or why doctors don't taper us off these drugs a lot slower. From reading all the comments on this forum, it seems like there's a world of people out there going through the same thing.

They tell us they're not habit-forming, and maybe they're not psychologically, but they sure are physically!!

I hope you feel better soon. My thoughts are with you.

My guess is that the withdrawal from Paxil is what is happening..it is notoriously difficult, and if you cut down over a two week period, you may have these effects for a while more..you might ask your doctor about using a very small dose every other day for another week if it interferes with your work.

It gets prescribed because for some, the benefits outweigh the risks and side effects

I agree it's great when you're on it.  I never felt better, all I'm saying is beware when you decide to go off because it's an experience you don't want to go through.  Just wish they could make something that is as great as paxil, without the withdrawls you have to go through when you decide you think you can live without it.  Just a thought.

I had to stay home from work today because the dizziness was too much.  I was just reading on the internet about paxil withdrawls & the vertigo & dizziness is a side effect.  It said to not drink coffee while trying to get off paxil because it just intensifies it.  What I don't understand is why do they prescribe something that is so bad coming off?  If I ever get off this stuff I will never go back on, in fact, I'm going to call my doc & tell him never to prescribe it to anyone...it's worse than a hard core drug!!! (not that I know, just what I've heard)

I was doing the same thing, trying to go from Paxil to Wellbutrin and couldn't get off the paxil completely because the side effects was to much.  I went to bed with a head ache and woke up with one.  I also felt shocks going through my body and head.  I also felt dizzy and disorented and was a nervous wreck so my doctor agreed to put me back on 10mg of paxil.
