Hi!
Well, it’s natural for you to feel apprehensive as being shifted to a new drug and its dose is being reduced. Both Olanzapine and Resperidone are atypical antipsychotics. So, basically, you will be taking the same class of antipsychotics. Resperidone is however a very potent antipsychotic. The response to treatment has been found to be more stable with Resperidone, so that’s a plus point with this drug. Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials. Both drugs have found to be equally safe on clinical trials. Both cause weight gain, but weight gain with Resperidone is lesser than that with Olanzapine. So once you start treatment, your doctor may adjust your prescription to a higher dose if the starting dose is not effective. It is always advisable to start the drug at lower potency and slowly increase its potency as need be. Please also discuss with your thoughts with your doctor.
I sincerely hope you will find this information useful in your journey towards better health.
Hope you improve with the new treatment! Good Luck and take care!
that being said what about the withdrawl effects from stoppinjg the olanzapine ive been on it for awhile so there has to be some side effects that ill get from it
Normally your doctor will slowly withdraw one drug and add the other. Please discuss this with your doctor.
