night time auditory hallucinations

I've been hearing strange noises, sometimes it sounds like music, sometimes it's like a "white noise" or a rhythmic tone or pulse, but the sound doesn't originate from any source. I see strange things in the shadows, out of the corner of my eye, and I get strange episodes of paranoia, but it usually only happens during night time. I'm 23, in fair health, I don't do drugs, I only drink on special occasions, and in moderation, and this has been bothering me for about two years, but it's never been this bad before. It started off very light, no fear or anything, just the rhythmic noises, and I figured it was just someone playing a radio a little loud, or my brain was just trying to entertain itself or something. The fear and seeing things started to set in later,  I usually see things like feral snarling dogs, or some strange humanoid thing walking around around in the shadows, or out of the corner of my eye, and I just panic, and I can't move, or speak, or do anything, but it usually only happens at night time.  what's going on? Is it a real problem? And where do I go to fix it?

Low doses of anti-psychotics are sometimes prescribed prophylactically to prevent the onset of a true, full-blown schizophrenic disease. Once you have a full-blown episode, your brain begins to undergo self-inflicted damage. You don't want that. Prevent it. See a psychiatrist, not any other type of doctor, and do it now.

It is not necessarily a real problem yet, but certainly could become one, and you would be very wise to consult a psychiatrist, and talk about this in greater detail....
