Tight chest, desire to run, short of breath..

Hi,
After a visit to the emergency room, an EKG, and blood test, results revealed neither heart or thyroid proplems.  I've never taken drugs only a tylenol or aspirin once or twice in a year or two.  I'm 48 and am not overweight, do not abuse my body in sleep, diet, or excercise.j  I sleep well, eat 3 square meals, and excercise daily.  I'd say I'm mostly temperate in all things.  So what broght on these signs of a heart attack. I learned this from teaching Firt Aid & CPR. The Doctor at ER said it's strees from quite an active work scedule.  He wants to prescribe both Lorazepan (1mg) & Buspar (10mg).  They gave me 1 mg of Lorazepn intervenouly at ER but it did not change my tight chest and uneasiness. It did make me drowsy and a bit wobbly.  My own prescription is doing more excercise: jogging & pushups.  Although it has become a nuisance when on the job and in the middle of 30 minute trip to the next repair.  Are there other physical or mental excercises that can help?  I want to concur this thing without medication and its side effects.

Oh, yeh Im only 36 and am in good shape also... and take care of myself. I also cut out all Caffeine except for a cup of coffee once in a great while and that helped also...

Good advice from all above , I went through the same thing ER,EKG and blood tests and I just had to face that the stress
of life was causing the panic attacks and I take Ativan for them....  I put a .5mg tab under my tongue when they start
and it makes me feel better in less than half an hour...  of course drink water after you put it under your tongue for about 5mins. And it does feel like a Heart attack or symptoms of one
and the hardest part you'll need to deal with is making your mind believe your not.

Oh yes that sounds like a panic attack! Buspar is generally not for panic attacks but for GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). It has helped me enourmously with my GAD though, and that has tought me to accept the help I am being offered. I was very reluctant at first and, as you, didn

You can try meditation techniques and biofeedback. If it is work stress, I am putting up a free site called www.myworkstress.com and you can go there and begin to figure out what you can do about that. Those symptoms are a sign of panic attacks. If I was you I would take your docs advice and use the Ativan or better yet, longer lasting Klonopin [Clonazapam] which is supoosed to be less addictive than the shorter acting Ativan [Lorazapam].

The Klonopin has stopped all those symptoms in me.
